Abstract

Infrared thermography is a non-invasive imaging  method that enables the assessment of physiological processes in tissues by recording surface temperature distribution. This paper presents a portable system for standardized acquisition of thermal and RGB images, designed to support the monitoring of postoperative wound healing. The device is based on a Rasp berry Pi 5 minicomputer, a Pi Camera 3 visible-light camera, and a FLIR Lepton 3.5 thermal camera. A key element of the system is a geometric registration procedure that maps the thermal data into the RGB image coordinate system. The registration is supported by a dedicated board containing four reference points in the form of heat sources (light bulbs) simultaneously visible in both imaging modalities. Based on the determined region of interest (ROI) and surrounding ring area (RING), statistical and dynamic features describing temperature distribution within the wound and its surroundings are extracted. The described solution ensures repeatability and standardization of measurement, which is a necessary condition for further quantitative analysis of the healing process.
